Pawprint's Pre-Launch Letter Is Really a Changelog: Runes Cut, Irisalis Redesigned

The dev team's letter confirms Xbox cloud gaming at launch and lists what changed since the beta: the rune system is gone, legendary capture is rebuilt around crafted Aniipods, Prismana odds are flattened, and a new Umbral variant guarantees Perfect Potential.

Thirteen days before launch, Pawprint Studio published what reads at first like a thank-you note. Read past the warmth and it is the most useful document the studio has released all year: a changelog of everything that changed between the closed beta and the launch build, written as a point-by-point answer to test feedback.

Start with the platform line, because it quietly adds one. The letter states Aniimo launches “on PC, console, and Xbox cloud gaming on September 16”, with mobile on the 23rd. Xbox cloud gaming has not appeared on any store capsule or in the gamescom press release, so this letter is currently its only source. If you have Game Pass Ultimate and no console, that line is the one that matters to you. Our release date guide now carries it.

The biggest mechanical change is a deletion. The rune system is removed entirely, random rune slots included, and the Carried Item system is simplified around it. That is a whole build layer gone. It also means any rune advice you have read anywhere, ours included, describes a game that no longer exists: our creature build data comes from the beta client and will be rebuilt from the launch client on day one.

Legendary capture has been redesigned, and Irisalis is the test case. The studio is blunt about why: throwing ball after ball at a legendary “turned a legendary encounter into a draining chore.” The replacement drops RNG entirely. You collect legendary tokens through world exploration and story progress, craft your own Legendary Aniipod, and unlock Irisalis’s exclusive story. The encounter then appears on the map as a scripted fight: win it, throw the Aniipod you built, done. It happens only once. The letter states this is the template for every Legendary Aniimo to come, which makes it the single most important design change in the list.

Prismana hunting gets the same anti-RNG treatment. The base chance of triggering Prismana Flow through nurturing is now flat, so the early-game penalty from low Prismatic Energy is gone and every nurturing carries the same odds, with the guarantee system kept. Catching gains a lucky strike mechanic that grants items, raises the area’s Prismatic Energy and can trigger Prismana Flow outright. Ecosystem nurturing now grants a fixed amount of Prismatic Energy, and offering quality no longer affects Wild Surge quality. Our Prismana explainer describes the beta model and is being rebuilt against the live game.

Buried in that same section is a brand new creature variant. Umbral Aniimo have distinctive coloration and guaranteed Perfect Potential, and they appear through Wild Surges from ecosystem nurturing or by chance in the open world. This is the first mention of them anywhere. They are not in the beta client, so nobody has a list, art or a spawn table yet, us included.

Progression is broadly gentler. A Sparkling Cube now guarantees Perfect Potential on the catch, spawn rates for 9/9 and 10/10 wild Aniimo are up, Legendary Star Dust output is increased, Capability Awakening below level 60 can be reset at any time with your items returned, capability caps unlock gradually with level and Resonance rank, and Capafruit effects now transfer automatically when you inherit, so switching which Aniimo you raise no longer costs you the whole investment.

Homeland got the largest content pass: a multi-area map with house building, far more furniture, furniture groups shareable via codes, interactive pieces you can place out in the open world, idle AI and a petting interaction for Home Aniimo, buyback through the Co-op Store, RV dispatches that can produce Prismana-trait eggs, seasonal events, and a soil-tilling social interaction that earns you a share of another Pathfinder’s harvest. Egg Heist adds more obtainable egg types and a high-difficulty Chaos Mode. Elsewhere: multi-language voiceover on the main story, rebuilt quest guidance, Pathfinder Challenge rematches, and AI teammates for Holo-Battle Interlink.

What this means for players (editor’s note): treat this letter as the real patch notes and treat every beta-era guide on the internet, including parts of ours, as suspect until launch day. The two changes that should reshape your first week are the legendary rework and the Sparkling Cube guarantee, because together they turn two of the game’s grindiest lotteries into things you can actually plan. The one to watch sceptically is Umbral: a variant with guaranteed Perfect Potential sounds enormous, and we have exactly one paragraph about it. We will not publish spawn odds or a roster for it until we can verify them, and neither should anyone else. Our creature database and build data get rebuilt from the launch client on September 16.
